Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?
Most homes in England don't need planning permission for a split system, as long as the unit can heat as well as cool. Since May 2025, these systems fall under the same permitted development rules as air source heat pumps, provided the outdoor unit meets the size limits and passes a noise assessment. Listed buildings, conservation areas, flats and commercial premises often need permission, so we will check this for you at the survey.
